Top Ways to Avoid Regulatory Problems With Intermediary Fees

The SEC has been examining how fund firms use sub-transfer agent fees and other administrative service payments to compensate intermediaries that market and sell fund shares. To implement these and related reviews, the SEC launched its Distribution in Guise sweep in 2013, a collaborative effort involving the agency’s National Exam Program, the Division of Investment Management, and the enforcement division’s asset management group.
