OCIE Plans to Increase Investment Adviser Examinations in 2016

February 3, 2016

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (“SEC”) Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (“OCIE”) is reportedly planning to add 100 examiners dedicated to investment advisers in 2016, which is a 35 percent increase over 2015 in its investment adviser examination staff. These examiners will be a combination of new hires and current examiners reallocated from OCIE’s broker-dealer examination program.

This increase in personnel shows that the SEC is continuing to increase its oversight over investment advisers, an area it has made one of its top priorities for several years. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly critical for investment advisers to remain vigilant in ensuring they have a sound compliance program in place. ACA Compliance Group (“ACA”) can provide assistance in many areas, such as compliance program reviews, mock SEC examinations, electronic communications reviews, and anti-money laundering program reviews, among others.
